The motherhouse of our entire community is Little Portion Hermitage in a beautiful valley in the Ozark Mountains near Berryville, Arkansas. Little Portion was dedicated in 1983, so at our 2013 General Gathering we proudly celebrated 30 years at Little Portion.
New Chapel and Monastery Building at dusk
Little Portion is home to most of our monastic members.
On April 29, 2008, our community suffered a devastating fire. Our old Common Center and Charity Chapel burned to the ground. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but we lost our community archives, our fine monastic and Franciscan library, and the common buildings that were the source of many memories. Like so many other communities have in the past, with grateful hearts, we began the task of rebuilding.
On April 10, 2010, our New Chapel and Monastery Building were dedicated by Bishop Anthony Taylor, the Bishop of Little Rock. Our new Monastery Building takes advantage of the latest in sustainable "green" technology to help us minimize our impact on the environment so that we can be good stewards of God's creation.
